Waterproof cameras are a fun accessory for vacations whether you use it in a pool, lake, ocean or rainstorm. For good reason, underwater photography is becoming more prevalent. Waterproof digital cameras can help you capture memories you would otherwise have been unable to capture. With these useful devices, you can document a family scuba diving trip, fun with friends in the pool and kids playing in the rain and snow.
Panasonic’s Lumix DMC-TS4 is our top pick for waterproof cameras. It features a 12.1 megapixel resolution, a 28 mm lens and several useful shutter speed and ISO settings. It also has easy photo sharing tools as well as a GPS tracking and tagging feature. The Lumix DMC-TS4 has a rugged design and extra-tight water protection seals.
This waterproof digital camera has some useful and relevant features such as GPS geotagging, quick photo and video uploading and a wide range of shutter speeds. It also has a full HD video mode so you can record memories and outdoor adventures.
The Lumix DMC-TS4 has a resolution of 12.1 megapixels, a 4.6x optical zoom and numerous ISO settings. This does not seem as impressive as some of the other underwater cameras we reviewed, but the Lumix DMC-TS4 can take fantastic photos underwater. The photographs it produces are high quality and vivid. This digital waterproof camera has a 28 mm lens, which is wider than the standard 35 mm lens that most compact digital cameras use. The 28 mm lens is able to capture more scenery and therefore gives you more options when editing your photos.
You can take the Lumix DMC-TS4 deeper than most waterproof cameras; it is water-resistant to a depth of 40 feet, an ideal depth for scuba diving. At this depth, you will be able to capture a greater diversity of underwater life and scenery.
This waterproof digital camera takes great photographs in and out of the water. We like the Starry Sky Mode shutter speed setting, which will slow the shutter speed down to 60 seconds. With this setting, you can take gorgeous nighttime still photos and even photograph lightning storms. The camera also has very high shutter speed settings – up to 1/1300 of a second – and an image stabilizer to help you take photographs of children and pets that do not turn out blurry.
Although the standard camera settings have a maximum optical zoom of up to 4.6x, you can use the intelligent zoom function to increase the maximum zoom to up to 9.3x.
Aside from these elaborate photo settings, the Lumix DMC-TS4 also has the important basics: red eye reduction, a self-timer, continuous photo shooting, an image stabilizer, color effects and white balance settings.
The Lumix DMC-TS4 from Panasonic is a camera well suited for outdoor enthusiasts. It is dustproof, waterproof to a depth of 40 feet, shockproof up to 6.6 feet, and it can withstand temperatures as low as 14 degrees Fahrenheit. It also includes a useful geotagging feature that uses a built-in GPS to tag your pictures in real time with GPS coordinates and a physical location name. The camera automatically stores your pictures alphabetically by location name on its internal drive. Besides a GPS, the camera also has a compass, depth indicator, barometric sensor and altimeter, which are useful for documenting information about your photos.
A 2.7-inch LCD display screen lets you see what you are shooting. The Lumix DMC-TS4 comes in four different colors: orange, silver, blue and red.
The Lumix DMC-TS4 features an easy photo uploader, which lets you choose which photos or videos you want to send to Facebook and YouTube ahead of time. When you get a chance to connect your camera or memory card to a computer, those photos and videos will automatically upload to your social networking accounts. This saves you the time it would take to save the media on your computer and then upload them to your social accounts individually.
Like most waterproof cameras, the Lumix DMC-TS4 can still be damaged if you’re not careful with it. Cameras are not completely safe from water; their batteries can still get wet and the lenses can still fog. To keep your underwater camera as safe as possible from water damage, we recommend handling it carefully while in and underwater. It also may be a good idea to purchase a float device and a waterproof case for extra protection.
This waterproof camera comes with a lithium-ion rechargeable battery and has an internal memory of approximately 20MB. Twenty megabytes will store several dozen photos, which may not be enough if you forget a memory card. While most waterproof cameras can take between 200 and 250 photos per battery charge, the Lumix DMC-TS4 can take about 310 photos on a single battery charge.

This high quality camera is completely airtight to prevent leaks. The high number of photo settings will help you take the best photographs you can, whether you’re indoors or out.
